Buha creates most of its items in pure oak. Sometimes we mix it up with iron for strength and aesthetics. And we have always been fascinated by how versatile oak is. Hard to work with, but extremely satisfactory.
There are so many things I would like to tell you about oak, but I will only share 5 that I find really fascinating:
- Oak is considered “old” only after it reached 700 years.
They stop growing after 1000 years when some parts of them start to die.
- The acorns produced by oak feed many small forest animals, but if you happen to live by an oak forest and own a horse or a dog you should know the oak acorns are highly toxic for them. The tannic and gallic acids contained in the acorn can poison both dogs and horses so you need to be extra careful.
- Only 1 in 10,000 acorns grow up to be an oak tree.
Just imagine the huge self esteem that 1 acorn grows with:). The rest of the acorns feed the animals and end of feeding the soil, but that 1 is extra special.
- Truffles have a very close connection with the oak trees. If you are like me and enjoy the taste and smell of truffles you probably know how hard it is to source the best truffles. Actually, what makes them special is the fact that they cannot be grown unlike almost everything else that was synthetically reproduced to satisfy our need for more. So, in certain areas people grow oak trees (special types) and hope they will find in minimum 5 years with the help of specially trained dogs or pigs the much awaited truffles near the roots of the oak trees.
- Yamaha drums are crafted from Japanese white oak.
So whenever you will find yourself in a rock or jazz concert and see the drummer playing his Yamaha “Oak Custom” drums, you will think about Buha Wood and how you know that small detail of the drums from us:)
